Novelon tablets are an oral contraceptive used by many women to prevent pregnancy. They are also effective for women suffering from irregular menstruation or menstrual pain. This medication contains two active ingredients, ethinylestradiol and desogestrel, which work synergistically to suppress monthly ovulation. Since ovulation does not occur, pregnancy cannot occur. In addition, it thickens cervical mucus, making it difficult for sperm to reach the egg.

Novelon tablets are used by many women not only for pregnancy prevention but also for stabilizing the menstrual cycle, relieving menstrual pain, and suppressing heavy menstrual bleeding. Long-term use may also reduce the risk of ovarian cysts and ovarian cancer. They are effective when taken correctly at the same time every day, as directed by a doctor.

Usage/Dosage	Dosage:  Take one tablet at approximately the same time every day. Do not take multiple tablets within a 24-hour period.

How do Novelon tablets work?

At the same time, it thickens the cervical mucus, making it difficult for sperm to reach the egg. It also thins the uterine lining, inhibiting the implantation and development of a fertilized egg.

By regulating hormone balance, it not only prevents pregnancy but also adjusts the thickness of the uterine lining, contributing to regularization of the menstrual cycle, reduction of heavy menstrual bleeding, and alleviation of menstrual pain.

How to use

• Take one tablet at the same time every day.
• Start taking the medication on the first day of your period.
• Continue using it every day until you finish the entire pack.
• Once you finish one pack, start the next pack immediately the following day.
• If you vomit within four hours of taking the medication, take another tablet.
• If you forget to take your medication for more than 12 hours, use a condom during sexual intercourse for the next two days.

Side effects of Novelon tablets

Like all other birth control pills, Novelon tablets have been reported to have the following common and mild side effects. These side effects do not occur in all women, but are seen in a small number of cases.

• Nausea and stomach discomfort
• headache
• Breast tenderness
• Mild weight fluctuations
• Mild irregular bleeding outside of menstruation

These side effects usually resolve on their own, but if they persist or if you experience symptoms such as leg pain or swelling, sudden chest pain, severe headache, vision problems, or difficulty breathing, stop using the medication immediately and consult a doctor.

Taboo

The following are cases in which you should not take Novelon:

• Pregnant or breastfeeding women
• People with a history of thrombosis
• Smokers aged 35 and over
• Patients with severe liver disease
• People whose high blood pressure is not well controlled
• Hormone-sensitive cancer patients

Drug interactions

Do not use this medication in combination with the following medications.

• Antiepileptic drugs (such as carbamazepine)
• Antibiotic (rifampicin)
• HIV treatment drugs
• Chinese herbal medicine

Q1. Can Novelon tablets prevent sexually transmitted infections (STIs)?

A.  No. It only prevents pregnancy. We recommend using condoms to prevent sexually transmitted infections.

Q2. What should I do if I forget to take my Novelon tablets?

A. If you forget to take your medication, take it as soon as you remember. If you are more than 12 hours late in taking your medication, use a condom during sexual activity for the next two days.

Q3. Is it safe to take Novelon tablets while breastfeeding?

A. No. Please refrain from using it while breastfeeding.

Q4. When do Novelon tablets start to show effects?

A. If you start taking it on the first day of your period, you will see results quickly. Otherwise, please use condoms for the first seven days.

Q5. Does Novelon tablets affect future fertility?

A.  No. Fertility will recover within about a month of stopping the medication.

Q6. Is it okay to drink alcohol while taking this medication?

A.  Occasional drinking is fine, but excessive drinking should be avoided as it increases the risk of forgetting to take medication or vomiting.

Q7. Can Novelon tablets cause weight gain?

A.  Some women may experience slight changes in their weight, but this is usually temporary.
